Colocasia Esculenta Black Magic
Colocasia Esculenta Black Magic - one of my mother plants; from my own plant collection; high-quality - slowly grown organic plant; planted in self-mixed permeable organic substrate and grown WITHOUT fertiliser, therefore robust and top healthy (quality before quantity!). The leaves turn almost black in intense sunlight (the young leaves are always pure green but turn almost black with time and enough sun); this year (with good care) it will surely get another 4-6 leaves; each additional leaf will be bigger than the one before...
Colocasia Esculenta Black Magic has black - heart-shaped leaves, wine-red stems; (with good care) can grow up to 100cm high; beautiful as a solitary plant; for the room, terrace or conservatory.
The plants love it warm and humid (indoors you can shower them regularly with lukewarm water). They grow best in the shade, although most species could also grow in some sunlight as long as they get enough water.
Between 05-10, colocasia can be grown as a container plant in the garden, for a sunny to semi-shady location; originating from Central Asia and India. Neither the plant nor the tuber is hardy!
If you want, you can also give the plant a "winter break"; so that only the tuber (without leaves) comes through the winter at about 15C in the winter quarters. In spring, with enough sun and warmth, it will sprout again beautifully; as all my Colocasias have done for several years...
