Dracaena cinnabari, also known as Socotra dragon tree or dragon's blood tree, is a unique and iconic tree native to the island of Socotra in Yemen. This tree is known for its umbrella-like shape and thick, twisted branches that help it survive the arid climate of its homeland. The tree is named after its red resin, known as ‘dragon's blood’, which has been used in medicine, dyes and varnishes since time immemorial.

The Dracaena cinnabari is extremely drought-resistant thanks to its dense leaf canopy, which reduces evaporation and retains moisture. It thrives on rocky, calcareous soil at higher altitudes.
