Tillandsia caliginosa is a fascinating species of air plant belonging to the Bromeliaceae family. This unique plant is characterized by its slender, silver-colored leaves that form a rosette pattern. The leaves are soft and flexible, making it a distinctive addition to any plant collection.

Origin: Tillandsia caliginosa is native to the warm, humid regions of Central and South America, where it thrives in forests and rocky outcrops.

Appearance: This air plant features slender, silver-colored leaves that can grow up to 20-30 cm long. The leaves are covered in fine trichomes, which give them their distinctive color and help the plant absorb moisture and nutrients from the air. In bloom, Tillandsia caliginosa produces vibrant, dark yellow tubular flowers, adding a splash of color to its striking foliage.

Care: Tillandsia caliginosa is an easy-to-care-for air plant that requires minimal maintenance.

  • Light: It prefers bright, indirect light but can also tolerate some direct sunlight. Ideal locations include near windows with filtered light.
  • Temperature: This plant thrives in temperatures between 15°C to 30°C. It can tolerate occasional temperature drops but should be protected from frost.
  • Water: Tillandsia caliginosa should be watered by misting or soaking in water for about 20-30 minutes once a week. Ensure the plant dries completely within 4 hours to prevent rot.
  • Air Circulation: Good air circulation is essential for this air plant to thrive. Ensure it is placed in an airy location where it can enjoy natural airflow.
  • Fertilizer: A light monthly fertilization during the growing season (spring to autumn) with a bromeliad or air plant fertilizer can promote healthy growth.
