Tillandsia caput-medusae, commonly known as the Medusa's Head Air Plant, is a captivating species of air plant native to Central America and Mexico. This unique plant gets its name from its twisted, serpentine leaves that resemble the mythical Medusa's hair.

Origin: Tillandsia caput-medusae is native to the warm, humid regions of Central America and Mexico, where it thrives in forests and rocky outcrops.

Appearance: This air plant is characterized by its curly, silvery-green leaves that grow in a rosette pattern. The leaves are covered in fine trichomes, which help the plant absorb moisture and nutrients from the air. In bloom, Tillandsia caput-medusae produces stunning purple-pink tubular flowers, adding a splash of color to its striking foliage.

Care: Tillandsia caput-medusae is a relatively easy-to-care-for air plant, requiring minimal maintenance.

  • Light: It prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some direct sunlight. Ideal locations include near windows with filtered light.

  • Temperature: This plant thrives in temperatures between 15°C to 30°C. It can tolerate occasional temperature drops but should be protected from frost.

  • Water: Tillandsia caput-medusae should be watered by misting or soaking in water for about 20-30 minutes once a week. Ensure the plant dries completely within 4 hours to prevent rot.

  • Air Circulation: Good air circulation is essential for this air plant to thrive. Ensure it is placed in an airy location where it can enjoy natural airflow.

  • Fertilizer: A light monthly fertilization during the growing season (spring to autumn) with a bromeliad or air plant fertilizer can promote healthy growth.
