Who was Saint Valentine?

According to the legend, he gave flowers from his garden to the newly married couples. Valentine also married soldiers who, according to imperial orders, had to remain unmarried, according to Christian ceremonial. This was probably the reason why Valentine was beheaded in Rome on 14th February 269 on the orders of Emperor Claudius II and thus became a martyr. St. Valentine is considered the patron saint of lovers, engaged couples and beekeepers.
