Epiphyllum ackermannii, commonly known as the orchid cactus or red epiphyllum, is an epiphytic cactus species. It originates from the tropical regions of Central and South America, where it grows on trees and rocks. It is known for its stunning, large, bright red flowers, which can reach a diameter of up to 15 cm.

The plant has flat, leaf-like stems that can grow several metres long and give it a hanging or cascading habit, making it a popular plant for hanging baskets. Epiphyllum ackermannii prefers filtered light, high humidity and well-drained soil. It flowers in spring and summer and needs careful watering to avoid root rot, especially as it can cope with limited moisture.

Due to its bright, eye-catching flowers, this cactus is very popular with collectors and plant lovers. It is relatively easy to cultivate, provided it is kept in a suitable environment with moderate care.

Plant offered comes from own propagation; fully established cutting; freshly planted in spring 2024 in a substrate specially adapted for Ephiphyllum in a clay pot - repotting only desired in 2-3 years; not over-fertilised (no greenhouse culture!), therefore healthy and robust (100% organic quality over quantity!); not hardy, easy to care for, sunny to semi-shady location; no waterlogging, please! bright red flowers when kept cool and dry over winter; simply a dream.
