Tillandsia Xerographica - The Sculptural Queen of Air Plants
Available at TOMs FLOWer CLUB
A Botanical Icon
Tillandsia xerographica is often described as the “queen” of all tillandsias - an architectural, slow-growing air plant with a uniquely sculptural presence. Its broad, silver-green leaves curl into elegant spirals, creating a natural rosette that feels both minimalistic and majestic. For collectors and design-minded plant lovers, it is one of the most coveted species within the Tillandsia world.
Origin & Growth Habit
Native to the dry forests of Central America, T. xerographica evolves without soil, drawing moisture and nutrients from the air. This slow-growing specimen from the TOMs FLOWer CLUB collection is organically cultivated, never over-fertilised, and therefore exceptionally healthy, resilient and long-lived.
Light & Placement
Bright, airy settings bring out the plant’s most refined colours and structure.
• Ideal for a bright to sunny indoor location
• In summer, the plant can be hung outdoors in a sheltered spot
• Not hardy and must be overwintered indoors
Its characteristic silver leaves reflect light beautifully, making it a natural design object in both contemporary and classic interiors.
Watering & Care
Despite its sculptural elegance, the queen is remarkably easy to care for.
• Shower the plant lightly 1–2 times per month
• Always use decalcified or rainwater
• Ensure excellent airflow so the plant can dry easily
Well-watered Xerographicas retain their elegant curls and silvery sheen. With time, the plant develops yellow-pink flowers. After flowering, it forms offsets (“pups”), gradually becoming fuller, more compact, and even more impressive.
