Euphorbia genoudiana is one of Madagascar's lesser-known succulent species, appreciated by collectors for its elegant architecture, slow growth, and delicate light green flowers. Unlike many commercially produced succulents, this species rewards patience. As it matures, it develops a refined natural habit that reflects the unique flora of Madagascar's dry regions.

The plant offered here originates from our own seed propagation at TOMs FLOWer CLUB and has been cultivated slowly under natural conditions. Rather than forcing rapid growth through intensive fertilisation, we allow each plant to develop at its own pace, resulting in a healthy, robust specimen with a strong root system and long-term vitality.

Cultivation & Care

Euphorbia genoudiana enjoys a bright to full sun position, ideally on a sunny windowsill, in a conservatory, or outdoors during the warmer months.

Water moderately throughout the growing season and always allow the substrate to dry before watering again. Like most Madagascan Euphorbias, the species dislikes permanently wet roots.

From November until February, the plant enters its natural winter dormancy. During this period, watering should be reduced significantly. This seasonal rest encourages vigorous new growth and abundant flowering during the following summer.

With appropriate care, this species will reward you with elegant blooms year after year.

The genus Euphorbia was named by Carl Linnaeus in 1753 in honour of Euphorbos, a Greek physician who lived during the 1st century AD.

Although many Euphorbia species resemble cacti, they are not cacti. They belong to the family Euphorbiaceae, while cacti belong to the Cactaceae. Their similar appearance is a remarkable example of convergent evolution, where unrelated plants independently evolve similar adaptations to survive in arid environments.
