Alocasia ‘Jacklyn’ – The Antler-Like Tropical Collector Plant

An Established Alocasia with Distinctive Foliage and a Sculptural Growth Habit

Alocasia ‘Jacklyn’ is a striking tropical aroid, admired for its deeply lobed, antler-like leaves, prominent leaf veins and distinctive, textured foliage. Its unusual leaf shape gives this collector favourite a character quite unlike that of more conventional Alocasia varieties.

The plant is widely known in horticulture as Alocasia ‘Jacklyn’ and is associated botanically with Alocasia tandurusa, a species native to Sulawesi, Indonesia. The name ‘Jacklyn’ remains widely used by plant collectors and in the ornamental plant trade. <Cite refs={["turn684600search0","turn684600search10"]}/>

Offered at TOMs FLOWer CLUB as a fully established plant, this Alocasia is an excellent choice for anyone looking to add a distinctive tropical statement plant to a bright indoor space, conservatory or sheltered summer patio.

With suitable care, warmth and growing space, it can develop into an impressive foliage plant. Over time, plants may reach approximately 100–150 cm in height under favourable growing conditions, although the eventual size depends on the growing environment and individual plant.

Botanical Profile

  • Botanical name: Alocasia tandurusa
  • Common horticultural name: Alocasia ‘Jacklyn’ / ‘Jacklin’
  • Family: Araceae (Arum family)
  • Origin: Sulawesi, Indonesia
  • Growth habit: Tropical, rhizomatous foliage plant
  • Foliage: Deeply lobed, antler-like leaves with prominent veins and textured surfaces
  • Mature size: Potentially around 100–150 cm tall under favourable conditions
  • Best use: Indoor statement plant, conservatory specimen or seasonal outdoor container plant

Cultivation & Care

  • Light: Bright, indirect light or partial shade is ideal. Gentle morning or late-afternoon sunshine may be tolerated after gradual acclimatisation. Protect the foliage from harsh midday sun.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate lightly and consistently moist during active growth, but never waterlogged. Do not allow the root zone to remain saturated.
  • Humidity: Appreciates warm, humid conditions. Indoors, occasional misting with lukewarm water is possible, although good airflow and appropriate ambient humidity are more important than spraying alone.
  • Temperature: Prefers warmth and should be protected from cold draughts and low temperatures.
  • Substrate: Planted at TOMs FLOWer CLUB in a self-mixed, permeable organic substrate designed to provide good aeration and drainage.
  • Fertilising: Avoid excessive fertilisation. A balanced, moderate approach during active growth is preferable to forcing rapid growth.
  • Repotting: Repotting in approximately one year is desirable, depending on root development and the condition of the substrate.
  • Outdoor cultivation in Switzerland: From May to October, it may be grown as a container plant in a sheltered, warm garden or patio position, from partial shade to carefully acclimatised sunshine. Bring it indoors before temperatures fall.
  • Winter care: Neither the plant nor its tuber is frost-hardy. Keep it warm and avoid cold, waterlogged conditions.

A Note from TOMs FLOWer CLUB

At TOMs FLOWer CLUB, I focus on quality before quantity and on plants that are cultivated with care rather than pushed into rapid growth.

This Alocasia ‘Jacklyn’ is offered as a fully established plant, grown using my own permeable organic substrate and a cultivation approach that avoids excessive fertiliser use. I do not use leaf sprays, artificial glossing agents or products intended to create an artificial shine.

The aim is to offer a robust, naturally grown plant with healthy development potential. Its distinctive foliage makes it particularly attractive as a solitary specimen, where the shape and structure of the leaves can be appreciated without competition from other plants.

You will receive the plant in the displayed size, as shown in the product photographs.
