Chorisia speciosa, also known as the silk tree or silk wool tree, is a deciduous tree native to South America, especially Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. It is known for its striking appearance with a sturdy trunk covered in sharp thorns and large, showy flowers that resemble orchids. Here is some information on plant care for Chorisia speciosa:

Light: Chorisia speciosa prefers full sunlight and thrives in bright, sunny locations. It needs at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day for optimal growth and flowering.
Water: Water your Chorisia speciosa regularly, especially during the growing season (spring to autumn), keeping the soil evenly moist but not too wet. Avoid overwatering as this can lead to root rot. Reduce watering during the winter months when the tree enters its dormant phase.

Soil: Chorisia speciosa prefers well-draining, sandy or loamy soil. It tolerates a wide pH range, but slightly acidic to neutral soils are ideal.

Temperature and humidity: Chorisia speciosa is a tropical to subtropical tree and prefers warm temperatures. It is not frost tolerant and needs protection from freezing temperatures. It also prefers moderate humidity but can tolerate drier conditions.
Fertilisation: Fertilise your Chorisia speciosa during the growing season with a balanced, general fertiliser to encourage healthy growth and flowering. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for dosage and frequency.

Pruning: Prune your Chorisia speciosa tree to maintain its shape and remove dead or damaged branches. Pruning should be done during dormancy in late winter or spring.
Pests and diseases: Chorisia speciosa is generally relatively resistant to pests and diseases. Occasionally, however, it can be attacked by pests such as scale insects or mealybugs. Look out for signs of infestation and treat immediately with suitable insecticides or vegetable oils.

Propagation: Chorisia speciosa can be propagated from seeds or cuttings. Seeds should be soaked in warm water for 24 hours before planting to facilitate germination. Cuttings should be taken from semi-hard shoots and placed in well-draining soil.
