Iboza Riparia
Iboza riparia is a herbaceous plant species of the composite family (Asteraceae) and is native to South Africa. The plant grows to a height of about 30 to 60 cm and has an upright habit. The leaves are elongated and grey-green in colour. The inflorescences are umbellate and consist of many small yellow flowers, each about 1 cm in diameter. The flowering period is from spring to summer.
However, in some areas of South Africa, the plant is used by local communities for traditional purposes. Some Xhosa and Zulu tribes, for example, use the roots of Iboza riparia as part of herbal medicines to treat various ailments such as abdominal pain, diarrhoea, fever and flu. The leaves are also sometimes used as a natural insecticide to repel pests in fields and gardens. Therefore, if one plans to use the plant, one should exercise caution and consult a qualified medical professional.
