Begonia ‘Lucerna’ is the old classic, stem-forming ‘Angel Wing Begonia’. It was bred in 1892 by Wettstein from Lucerne in Switzerland. It was originally called ‘Corallina de Lucerna’. This begonia is very vigorous and flowers frequently. The leaves are olive green with small silver spots on the upper side and red on the underside. The flowers are pink-red to pink, depending on the incidence of light. The flowers are darker in stronger light. The flowers appear in large clusters hanging from the stems. This early variety is very easy to grow and propagate. It is a popular plant because it is easy to cultivate. It can grow up to 2 metres tall.

From my own propagation - from the head cuttings from my mother plant; not over-fertilised, therefore top healthy and robust (100% organic quality over quantity!), easy to care for, very suitable for a semi-shady (but still bright) location (no direct sun! ), potted in self-mixed, well-drained organic substrate; repotting only desired in a year's time; showering the leaves every fortnight is very good for the plant; between May and October it can also enjoy the days in the garden in a bright spot with morning and/or evening sun; have fun with your new Begonia Lucerna!
