Offered for sale is the Selaginella lepidophylla, commonly known as the “False Rose of Jericho” Unlike the "True Rose of Jericho" (Anastatica hierochuntica), which is relatively rare and harder to find today, the False Rose of Jericho is more widely available.

This fascinating plant belongs to the spikemoss family (Selaginellales) and is native to the desert regions of North America, spanning Texas to Arizona, as well as parts of Mexico and El Salvador. Its desert origins make it incredibly resilient, allowing it to survive for months without water.

Unlike the True Rose of Jericho, the False Rose of Jericho is a poikilohydric plant, meaning it can completely dry out and then “come back to life” when exposed to water. This remarkable process, where the plant unfurls and turns green, is purely physical. Once rehydrated, the revived plant can be potted in sand and placed in a sunny location.

In its dried state, the plant should be stored in a warm, dry place. This unique ability to transition between dormancy and revival makes the Selaginella lepidophylla a wonderful addition to any plant collection.
