Sansevieria francisii (Dracaena francisii) - East African Collector Plant

A distinctive, slow-growing succulent for collectors of unusual Sansevieria species. Sansevieria francisii, botanically also known as Dracaena francisii, is particularly interesting for its unusual growth habit: narrow, pointed leaves arranged in tightly packed, spiral-like formations along an upright stem.

The species originates from eastern Kenya and differs considerably from the familiar broad-leaved snake plants. Its compact, architectural growth, firm grey-green to dark-green foliage and subtly banded leaves give it a character of its own. With time, the stem elongates and the plant may produce offsets, gradually developing into an even more distinctive specimen.

For sale is a freshly cut plant cutting from the mother plant in my own 100% organically grown Sansevieria collection. You will receive a cutting in the displayed size and form, as shown in the photographs – not the mother plant itself.

At TOMs FLOWer CLUB, I focus on individually cultivated plants, healthy growth and quality before quantity. My plants are grown without excessive fertilisation, sprays or artificial leaf-glossing agents. The emphasis is on natural development rather than fast, artificially stimulated growth.

Sansevieria francisii appreciates a bright position, from bright indirect light to some direct sunlight after gradual acclimatisation. A very permeable, well-draining succulent substrate is essential. Allow the substrate to dry out thoroughly between waterings, and keep the plant considerably drier in cool conditions. Like other succulents from warm climates, it must be protected from frost and prolonged cold, particularly when the substrate is wet.

As this is a freshly cut plant cutting, please allow time for the cut surface to dry and callus before planting. Use a dry, well-draining substrate and avoid watering immediately after planting. Rooting and the development of new growth take time; patience is part of growing these plants successfully.

The botanical name Dracaena francisii is increasingly used in modern plant taxonomy, while Sansevieria francisii remains widely recognised among collectors and specialist growers.

An interesting choice for collectors of Sansevieria, unusual stem-forming succulents and architectural plants with distinctive foliage.
