Vandaenopsis pulcherrima – Rare Beauty with a Botanical Twist

Vandaenopsis pulcherrima is a beautiful hybrid orchid, often believed to result from a cross between the Vanda and Phalaenopsis genera (hence the name Vandaenopsis). However, this name is frequently used incorrectly: Vandaenopsis pulcherrima is commonly mistaken for Doritis pulcherrima – an older name now properly classified as Phalaenopsis pulcherrima.

Unlike typical Phalaenopsis, this unique species grows terrestrially or lithophytically – anchoring itself in soil or on rocks rather than living epiphytically on trees. This growth style gives it a grounded, almost rugged character, making it a favourite among collectors seeking something truly different.

Its slender, upright, grass-like leaves stand in refreshing contrast to the broad, fleshy foliage of classic Phalaenopsisvarieties. From the base, elegant upright flower spikes emerge, bearing small yet vivid pink to magenta blooms. With proper care, this orchid will reward you with multiple blooming cycles per year, offering vibrant splashes of colour across the seasons.

Phalaenopsis pulcherrima thrives in bright, indirect light – slightly more than standard Phalaenopsis – and prefers warm temperatures above 18 °C. It enjoys regular watering during its active growing period, with reduced watering in cooler months.

The plants offered for sale are well-established, potted in quality orchid soil in clay pots, and will not require repotting for the next 3–4 years. Also perfectly suited for small terrariums or plant display windows.

You’ll receive the plant in the displayed size, organically cultivated and cared for at TOMs FLOWer CLUB.
