Aloe Dichotoma
Aloe dichotoma – Rare Quiver Tree from Southern Africa
Origin
The Aloe dichotoma, also known as the Quiver Tree, is a rare and impressive, tree-like succulent native to Namibia and South Africa. Naturally found on rocky, sun-drenched hillsides and desert plains, it is revered by local communities as a sacred plant.
Characteristics
Its smooth, pale bark and distinct forked branching structure give the Aloe dichotoma its scientific name. Fleshy, pointed leaves form rosettes at the branch tips, and in winter, this striking succulent bursts into clusters of bright yellow flowers. It can grow up to 7 meters tall, making it one of the tallest and most architectural Aloe species.
Care
Aloe dichotoma is drought-tolerant, sun-loving, and very low-maintenance. It thrives in a sunny, well-drained location and is also happy outdoors from April to October, for example on a balcony or terrace. Avoid waterlogging, especially in winter, to prevent root rot. Though it tolerates light frost, it is not winter-hardy, so frost protection is recommended. Annual feeding with a slow-release organic fertilizer encourages healthy growth.
From Our Collection
This plant comes directly from our own succulent collection and has been organically grown with great care. It is not over-fertilised, not sprayed, and not mass-produced in fast greenhouse culture – instead, it has been grown slowly, with a proper winter rest period, in our self-mixed permeable cactus substrate. Repotting is only recommended in 1–2 years.
