Anthurium ‘Million Flowers Red’ - Compact Flamingo Flower with Abundant Red Blooms

A compact flowering Anthurium with a remarkable capacity for producing vivid red blooms. Anthurium ‘Million Flowers Red’ belongs to the Andraeanum Group and was selected for its free-flowering habit and distinctive combination of glossy, dark-green foliage and bright red, heart-shaped flower spathes.

The contrast between the rich green leaves, waxy red spathes and yellow flower spikes gives this variety a strong visual presence despite its relatively compact growth. Unlike Anthuriums grown primarily for their foliage, ‘Million Flowers Red’ is all about its flowering performance. Under suitable conditions, it can produce successive blooms over an extended period, making it an appealing choice for anyone who enjoys flowering tropical houseplants.

A small botanical detail worth knowing: the conspicuous red parts are technically spathes, modified leaves that surround the actual flowers. The tiny individual flowers grow along the central yellow spadix.

At TOMs FLOWer CLUB, I value healthy plants, natural development and quality before quantity. My approach is to offer plants for their individual character and growing potential, rather than simply their appearance at the moment of sale.

Growing conditions

Light: Provide a bright position with plenty of indirect light. Gentle morning or late-afternoon sunlight may be tolerated, but protect the foliage and flowers from strong direct midday sun.

Watering: Keep the substrate lightly and evenly moist during active growth, allowing excess water to drain freely. Avoid both prolonged dryness and waterlogging.

Substrate: Use an airy, well-drained substrate suitable for Anthuriums and other tropical aroids. The roots need oxygen as well as moisture.

Temperature: This tropical plant prefers warm indoor conditions. Aim for approximately 18–27°C and protect it from cold draughts and temperatures below 15°C.

Humidity: Moderate to higher humidity is beneficial. Good air circulation helps maintain healthy foliage and reduces the risk of persistent moisture-related problems.

Flowering: With adequate light, warmth and appropriate care, the plant can continue producing new flower stems over time. Individual blooms can remain attractive for an extended period, although flowering frequency and duration depend on growing conditions and the plant's stage of development.

Anthurium ‘Million Flowers Red’ is an excellent choice for enthusiasts looking for a compact, colourful flowering houseplant with glossy foliage and an extended display of red blooms.
