Aspidistra Elatior Hoshi-Zora
Aspidistra Elatior Hoshi-Zora (in English "Starry Sky Cast Iron Plant") is a vigorous old Japanese Aspidistra variety with broad leaves that are lightly speckled with very tiny white dots. The name "Hoshi-Zora" means "starry sky".
Aspidistra elatior is native to Taiwan and the islands of southern Japan, where it grows as an understory plant. The name of the genus is derived from the Greek word 'aspidion', which means 'shield', in reference to the typical broad lanceolate leaves of the species, which are shield-shaped.
The plant offered is from my own propagation (division of the 100% organically grown mother plant from my own Aspidistra collection, as per picture, this in itself is not for sale), not over-fertilised therefore top healthy and robust (organic quality before quantity!), no spraying/shining agents for the leaves; planted in self-mixed permeable organic substrate (repotting in one year desired), leaf length of the adult plant up to 50-70cm, until the first frost days the plant stands in the garden therefore it is well hardened off; this is the hardiest of the yellow dotted Aspidistra plants; easy to care for, very suitable for the half-shady to shady location (no direct sun!). ); I always keep the Aspidistras outside between 03.-11.; some of the plants are conditionally hardy down to -5; cat-friendly; Enjoy your new Japanese beauty - Aspidistra Elatior Hoshi-Zora!
