Astrophytum caput-medusae – Grafted Rare Collector Cactus | Yellow-Flowering Botanical Rarity

A remarkable and highly sought-after Mexican cactus, organically cultivated at TOMs FLOWer CLUB.

Astrophytum caput-medusae is one of the most unusual members of the cactus family. First scientifically described in 2002, this exceptional species is instantly recognisable by its elongated, snake-like tubercles, which resemble the hair of Medusa from Greek mythology.

Unlike the familiar globular form of many Astrophytum species, this cactus develops distinctive finger-like growths, making it a fascinating addition to specialist cactus, succulent and botanical collections.

Grafted Specimen – Established Growth

The offered plant is grafted onto a robust rootstock. Grafting supports reliable growth and can make cultivation more straightforward than growing this particularly sensitive species on its own roots.

With suitable light, watering and seasonal rest, established plants can flower repeatedly. The flowering photographs show flowers produced by this very plant.

Organically Cultivated at TOMs FLOWer CLUB

This specimen has been cultivated with patience and attention to long-term plant health.

  • Organically cultivated

  • No chemical plant protection sprays

  • No leaf-shining products or growth hormones

  • No excessive fertilisation

  • Self-mixed, highly mineral and free-draining substrate

At TOMs FLOWer CLUB, we focus on healthy, naturally developed collector plants rather than artificially accelerated growth.

Cultivation & Care

Light: Provide a very bright to full-sun position. Gradually acclimatise the plant to stronger direct sunlight.

Watering: During active growth, water thoroughly but only after the substrate has completely dried out. Avoid waterlogging.

Winter rest: Keep almost completely dry in a bright, cool location, ideally around 5–10 °C. Resume watering gradually when active growth begins.

Substrate: Use a highly mineral, exceptionally free-draining cactus mix.
