Brassavola nodosa 'Little Stars' – The Night-Flowering Orchid

Description

Brassavola nodosa 'Little Stars' is a beautifully fragrant, compact orchid hybrid, beloved for its star-shaped creamy white flowers and sweet night-time scent. This variety is a cross between Brassavola nodosa and Brassavola cordata, cherished for its elegant, narrow leaves and citrusy perfume that fills the air after sunset — hence its nickname: "Lady of the Night."

Unlike many orchids, ‘Little Stars’ often blooms several times per year under the right care and emits its strongest fragrance at night. Ideal for windowsills, terrariums, or smaller interiors, this orchid brings grace and perfume into any home.

Plant Care

  • Light: Bright, indirect light. Tolerates some direct morning or evening sun. South- or east-facing windows are ideal.

  • Watering: Let the orchid soil nearly dry before watering again. Avoid waterlogging; ensure excellent drainage. Mist between waterings to boost humidity.

  • Humidity: Loves high humidity (50–70%). Regular misting or a humidity tray is recommended.

  • Temperature: Warm temperatures (16–28°C). Protect from cold drafts.

  • Fertilisation: Use a diluted orchid fertiliser every 2–3 weeks during active growth.

  • Substrate: Grown in self-mixed orchid bark substrate, allowing airflow and healthy root development.
