Bursera Fagaroides / Scented Bursera
Bursera fagaroides also known as "Scented Bursera" is an interesting shrub or small "bonsai" tree. From a thick, short trunk with white, papery bark that peels away to expose the light green colour underneath, grow the widely spreading stems that bear pinnate, dark green leaves. The greenish flowers, which often appear in spring, are very small and are followed by a small green fruit that ripens after some time, up to a year, to open and reveal a single yellow to bright red seed. Plant the plant in full sun in well-drained soil and water very little. This plant is drought resistant but also sheds its leaves when temperatures drop in winter. It tolerates light frost. The plant originates from the northwest of Mexico.
Caudex plant; the leaves are shed before/in winter; overwinter at about 10-15C; water very little or not at all in winter; for (very) sunny location then from spring when it will sprout again; collector's plant; potted in self-mixed permeable organic substrate in a clay pot; repotting only desired in 2-3years; grown from seed; not overfertilised therefore robust & healthy (100% organic quality before quantity!).
