Calathea Majestica 'White Star' - White Star Prayer Plant | Elegant Tropical Foliage with Striking White Variegation

Discover the Beauty of Calathea majestica 'White Star'

Calathea majestica 'White Star' (currently classified botanically as Goeppertia majestica 'White Star') is one of the most elegant tropical foliage plants available today. Loved for its elongated leaves beautifully striped with crisp white and soft pink tones against a rich green background, it brings a refined, tropical atmosphere into any interior.

Unlike flowering houseplants, the appeal of Calathea majestica 'White Star' lies entirely in its spectacular foliage. Each leaf is naturally unique, displaying intricate brushstroke-like variegation that makes every plant an individual work of nature. The deep burgundy undersides provide an additional layer of colour, especially as the leaves gently move throughout the day.

At TOMs FLOWer CLUB, we appreciate plants that become more beautiful as they mature. Calathea majestica 'White Star' is exactly that kind of plant—rewarding patient growers with increasingly lush foliage and an impressive architectural presence.

Collector Note

Among foliage collectors, Calathea majestica 'White Star' has earned a reputation as one of the most refined members of the Prayer Plant family. While many Calatheas are admired for bold patterns, 'White Star' offers something more subtle and sophisticated.

Its elegant white striping resembles delicate brushstrokes, creating a softer appearance than many other species. No two leaves are ever identical, making every plant unique. Mature specimens develop into impressive architectural plants that become increasingly beautiful with age.

Collectors also appreciate the fascinating nyctinastic leaf movement—a natural response to changing light conditions that causes the leaves to gently rise each evening before lowering again with daylight.

Care

Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct midday sun, which may scorch the delicate variegated foliage.

Watering: Keep the substrate evenly moist but never waterlogged. Allow only the surface of the substrate to dry slightly between watering.

Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity. Higher humidity encourages healthy foliage and helps prevent brown leaf margins.

Temperature: Ideal between 18–28°C. Protect from temperatures below 15°C and avoid cold draughts.

Substrate: A light, moisture-retentive yet free-draining organic substrate. At TOMs FLOWer CLUB we cultivate our plants in our own carefully developed self-mixed permeable organic growing medium.

Maintenance: Remove older leaves as required and wipe foliage occasionally to remove dust. Rotate the plant regularly for symmetrical growth.

Additional cultivation tips: Whenever possible, use rainwater or soft water, as excessive minerals may cause brown leaf edges. Stable growing conditions with consistent warmth and humidity produce the finest foliage.
