Bring vibrant colour into your home with the beautiful Colourful Nettle, botanically known as Solenostemon scutellarioides (formerly known as Coleus). Originating from tropical Africa, this attractive hybrid shrub is admired for its intensely coloured foliage and decorative appearance.

This plant can grow up to approximately 1.5 metres in height and width under optimal conditions and produces fine, delicate flowers that complement its striking leaves.

The offered plant comes from my own propagation, derived from the rejuvenation of a carefully maintained mother plant. It is grown without overfertilisation, ensuring a robust, healthy structure in line with a strict organic approach where quality is prioritised over quantity. The plant is nicely branched and well established.

It is an easy-care plant that thrives in a bright location with light sun exposure. Too much direct sunlight may damage the delicate leaves, while insufficient light can reduce the intensity of its colouring. Regular watering is recommended, but waterlogging should be avoided. The plant is potted in a self-mixed, permeable organic substrate to ensure optimal root health.

Repotting is only necessary after about one year, ideally following winter dormancy. At that time, the plant can be cut back to encourage vigorous new growth in spring.

This colourful nettle is ideal as a decorative solitary plant, for example on a windowsill or in a bright indoor space. It is not hardy and should be protected from low temperatures.
