Ferocactus Horridus Brevispinus - Fierce Beauty for Your Collection!

Bring home a true marvel of the desert with Ferocactus horridus brevispinus, a stunning globose cactus native to the rocky hillsides of Northwest Mexico.

Offered at TOMs FLOWer CLUB from organic cultivation, this slow-growing beauty features a barrel-shaped stem when young, becoming more columnar with age, reaching up to 1 meter tall and 40 cm in diameter.

Its green to bluish stem is elegantly ribbed — often with up to 40 slightly wavy ribs — and adorned with striking tubercles. Large, round areoles proudly bear 7–10 creamy white radial spines, gracefully curved inward, and a short, robust brownish-red central spine, giving it its fierce, charismatic look.

In spring and summer, enjoy its bright yellow, funnel-shaped flowers with red-veined tips, a stunning contrast to its armored body.

The yellow fruits and black seeds are yet another marvel for collectors.

Care Tips:

  • Prefers full sun, but shield from the harshest midday rays.

  • Protect from cold: move indoors if temperatures drop below 6°C.

  • Plant in a gritty, well-drained substrate (mix of pumice, clay, and loam) to prevent root rot.

  • Water moderately during the growing season (allowing soil to dry completely) and keep dry in winter for dormancy.

  • Fertilize once a month during spring and summer with cactus fertilizer for faster, lush growth.

  • Repot every few years with fresh soil and a slightly larger pot if needed.

Fun Fact:
The name Ferocactus horridus comes from the Latin "ferox" meaning fierce, due to its vivid, strong thorns. "Horridus" hints at its intimidating but fascinating appearance.

At TOMs FLOWer CLUB, you receive a healthy, robust Ferocactus horridus brevispinus - organically grown with 100% passion for quality over quantity!
