Ornithogalum caudatum, also known as "Star of Bethlehem" or "Snake Lily," is a lily species native to South Africa and is considered a medicinal plant. Similar to Aloe Vera, the sap from its thick bulbs is used for various healing purposes. It is used in wound healing, for toothaches, tired feet, inflammation, insect bites, and bruises. The plant is grown organically from small bulbs without the use of fertilizers. It tolerates dry conditions well and produces white-green striped flowers.

Under optimal conditions, Ornithogalum caudatum forms numerous offsets or side bulbs that can be used for further propagation. It is not winter-hardy and should be kept frost-free. Planting it in a well-draining organic substrate is recommended, and repotting is desired within the first year to provide sufficient space for growth. The plant thrives in bright locations and can undergo a winter dormancy period.

The beauty of its white-green striped flowers and its medicinal properties make Ornithogalum caudatum a valuable addition to any plant collection.
