Organically grown plants – naturally special

🌱 Introduction: The Bold Charm of "Prince of Orange"

Among the many captivating cultivars in the Philodendron family, Philodendron Prince of Orange stands out with its uniquely changing foliage colours – from fiery orange new growth to mature mid-green leaves. This vibrant tropical houseplant is not only a visual stunner but also easy to care for, making it ideal for beginners and collectors alike.

In this blog, we’ll explore its botanical background, native roots, and how to care for it properly – including useful tips from the organic cultivation at TOMs FLOWer CLUB.

🌍 Origin & Habitat – From Tropical Forests to Your Home

Although Philodendron Prince of Orange is a cultivar (meaning it doesn’t occur in the wild), its parentage traces back to tropical Central and South America – the native home of the Philodendron genus. These plants typically thrive in humid rainforests, growing under the canopy in filtered light, often clinging to trees or creeping across the forest floor.

"Prince of Orange" was bred for compact growth, vibrant colour transitions, and self-heading form, meaning it doesn’t trail or climb like many of its relatives. This makes it perfect for indoor displays, tables, and plant shelves.

🌿 Care Guide – How to Keep Your Prince Thriving

    ☀️ Light Requirements

This Philodendron loves bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun can scorch the delicate, colourful new leaves. A semi-shady spot with dappled light is perfect.

    💧 Watering

Water moderately. Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry out between waterings. Avoid soggy roots – this plant prefers moist, but not wet substrate.

    🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

Keep it in room temperatures between 18–27°C. As a tropical species, it enjoys higher humidity. If your air is dry, mist the leaves regularly or place the pot near a tray with pebbles and water.

    🌱 Soil

At TOMs FLOWer CLUB, we pot our plants in a self-mixed, permeable organic substrate – airy, well-drained, and rich in natural nutrients. This prevents root rot and encourages strong growth.

    🌸 Fertilising

Since our plants are organically grown and not over-fertilised, we recommend light feeding during spring and summer with a balanced organic liquid fertiliser, diluted to half strength.

✂️ Propagation – Rejuvenating the Prince

Philodendron Prince of Orange is usually propagated through stem cuttings or division. As a self-heading type, cuttings are taken from the central growth, ideally when the plant is mature and strong. Cuttings should include at least one growth node and a leaf, and be placed in moist substrate or water until roots form.

At TOMs FLOWer CLUB, we occasionally offer freshly cut, unrooted rejuvenations – ideal for experienced plant lovers who enjoy starting from scratch.

🌟 Expert Tips from TOMs FLOWer CLUB

    • 💨 Leaf care: Wipe the leaves every 2–3 weeks with a damp cloth or give the plant a gentle shower to keep them dust-free and healthy.

    • 🪴 Repotting: Only needed every 2–3 years. Choose a slightly larger pot with good drainage.

    • 🚫 Toxicity warning: Like most Philodendrons, Prince of Orange is toxic to pets and humans if ingested – keep it out of reach of small children and animals.

    • 🌿 Leaf colour hint: The more light (without direct sun), the brighter the orange hues of the new leaves!

🌱 Why Choose TOMs FLOWer CLUB?

Each Philodendron Prince of Orange offered at TOMs FLOWer CLUB is:

    • 🌿 From our own plant collection

  • Propagating Sansevieria Through Leaf Cuttings

Sansevieria leaf cuttings prepared for propagation in organic soil

Propagating Sansevieria Through Leaf Cuttings – A Simple & Rewarding Method

Sansevieria, also known as snake plant or mother-in-law’s tongue, is one of the easiest and most rewarding houseplants to grow – and just as easy to propagate!

At TOMs FLOWer CLUB, we grow and propagate all our Sansevierias organically, without rushing, over-fertilising, or mass production. If you’ve ever wanted to multiply your Sansevieria – or grow one from a single leaf – this guide is for you.

Why Propagate Sansevieria by Leaf Cuttings?

    * No need to divide the whole plant – a single leaf is enough
    * It's an easy, space-saving method
    * Perfect for producing multiple plants from one
    * Ideal for varieties that don’t produce runners

Note: For variegated Sansevieria (those with yellow or white edges), leaf propagation often results in all-green plants. They’re still beautiful – just not variegated.

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Propagate by Leaf Cuttings

    1. Choose a healthy leaf
Pick a strong, undamaged leaf from your plant – the healthier and thicker, the better your success rate

Step-by-step Sansevieria propagation using healthy snake plant leaves

    2. Cut into sections

Using a clean knife or scissors, cut the leaf into **5–10 cm (2–4 inch) long pieces**. Important: **remember which end is the bottom** – only one side will root.

    3. Let the cuttings dry
Place the pieces in a dry, well-ventilated spot for 2–3 days to allow the cut surfaces to callous over. This helps prevent rotting later.

    4. Plant in well-drained substrate
Insert the bottom end of each piece into a well-drained, lightly moist organic mix, about 2–3 cm deep. At TOMs FLOWer CLUB, we use a special mix of:

Sansevieria Kirkii Silverblue organically grown succulent plants for sale at TOMs FLOWer CLUB, Schwiegermutterzunge, Svorkryne jazyky, Luftreinigende Pflanzen, Zimmerpflanze, Katzenfreundliche Pflanze

    > Organic, self-mixed substrate made from airy potting soil, pumice, coconut fiber, and sand – just like all the Sansevierias we offer.

    5. Provide bright, indirect light – and patience!
Place your pots in a bright but not sunny location. Keep the substrate slightly moist but never wet. After 6–10 weeks, roots will begin to form – and eventually tiny new leaves will sprout.

    TOMas’ Tips for Success

    * Best season: spring or summer for faster rooting
    * Be patient – Sansevierias are slow growers, but very steady
    * Don’t fertilize in the first 4–6 months – let the plant grow stress-free, organically

Growing Your Own = Pure Joy

Growing your own plant from a simple leaf is a beautiful process – and in line with what we stand for at TOMs FLOWer CLUB:

Quality over quantity. Organically grown. No stress, no shortcuts.

Of course, if you’d rather start with a fully rooted and well-established Sansevieria – feel free to browse our shop. All our plants come from our own collection and propagation, including those already grown from leaf cuttings like these.

🌱 Have fun propagating – and feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

    Warm regards,

  • Sarracenia leucophylla – The Elegant Carnivore from the American Wetlands

Sarracenia leucophylla – The Elegant Carnivore from the American Wetlands, TOMs FLOWer CLUB, pitcher plants for sale

    🪴 What is Sarracenia leucophylla?

Also known as the white-topped pitcher plant, Sarracenia leucophylla is a truly remarkable carnivorous plant native to the southeastern United States, especially Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. It thrives in sun-drenched, nutrient-poor wetlands like bogs and pine savannas, where it has evolved to supplement its nutrition by catching insects.

Its name "leucophylla" means "white leaf" – a nod to the luminous white upper parts of the pitcher, often dramatically veined in crimson or deep green.

    🌿 Plant Description

This stunning species forms tall, tubular pitchers (up to 70 cm high in nature) that act as passive pitfall traps. Insects are lured by nectar and the bright coloring into the opening, where they slip inside and are digested by the plant’s natural enzymes.

The most prominent growth flush appears in late summer to early autumn, making it a seasonal showstopper in any carnivorous plant collection.

🌞 Care Tips for Happy Sarracenia leucophylla

Whether you're a carnivorous plant enthusiast or a curious beginner, Sarracenia leucophylla is relatively easy to grow with a few key care tips:

    • Light: Full sun or very bright light is essential. Outdoors in summer is ideal!

    • Water: Only use rainwater, distilled, or reverse-osmosis water. Tap water contains minerals that can harm the plant.

    • Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity. Can adapt to indoor environments with good light and regular watering.

    • Substrate: A mix of sphagnum peat moss and perlite, or pre-made carnivorous plant soil. No fertilizer!

    • Container: In our shop, this plant comes potted in a 14 cm diameter, 13 cm high glass vase without a drain hole. This allows for constant soil moisture, which mimics its boggy natural habitat.

    • Winter Dormancy: The plant needs a rest phase. From late autumn to early spring, keep it in a cool location (0–10°C). This mimics natural seasonal cycles and ensures long-term health.

    🌟 Good to Know

    • Pest control bonus: It naturally reduces the number of flies and gnats in your home or greenhouse.

    • No fertilizer needed: These plants catch their own food – that’s the fun of growing them!

    • Outdoor lovers: During the warm months, Sarracenia leucophylla thrives outdoors on balconies, terraces, or in gardens.

    • Lifespan: With proper care and dormancy, these plants can live for decades and even produce divisions over time.

    🤩 Fun Facts

    • In the wild, pitcher plants like Sarracenia leucophylla often catch more prey than they can digest, leading to entire mini-ecosystems inside their pitchers.

    • Some native wasps and spiders co-evolve with Sarracenia and use the pitchers as a hunting ground or shelter!

    • Its striking looks have made it a poster plant for conservation – it's protected in many areas due to habitat loss.

💚 Bring Botanical Drama to Your Space

With its exotic form and self-sufficiency, Sarracenia leucophylla is more than a plant – it's a conversation piece, a natural insect trap, and a stunning sculptural accent.

Each plant from TOMs FLOWer CLUB is organically grown and lovingly selected – and comes already potted in a designer glass vase, ready to shine in your home.
